Still a corrupt cop at heart

This episode marks a milestone in my technical process.

AI has been threatening to come crashing down on us for quite some time now. Beyond the existential threat to humanity as a whole, I’m talking specifically about the work of illustrators, animators, and comic artists.

From where we stand, AI has already steamrolled several industries (advertising, for one). I haven’t gotten any storyboard or animatics gigs in ages, let alone sketch work for PPP.

I tried to educate myself as much as possible, but I’ll admit it now — I confess — the whole subject terrified me. Deep down, I think I saw image generation as an inevitable predator, and therefore the enemy. So I avoided using it.

This technology isn’t going anywhere. In fact, it’s only going to get better. There’s no point in staying against it. All I’m doing is giving fear more power.

So I gave in.

I opened a ChatGPT account and started experimenting, driven by my usual obsession: “Can I make comics with this?”

And honestly, what I felt was RELIEF.

This comic was made with SOME help from AI on the art side. I’m dying to know if you, my esteemed readers, can spot it. Please let me know!

My conclusion so far is that AI isn’t going to take my job.

What WILL take my job is an artist who knows how to use AI.

I’m not going down without a fight. ;)
